Welcome to Phil Holmes's weather page. The station was set up on February the 18th, 2004. The weather information is taken from an Oregon Scientific WMR928N, which has a combined anemometer/wind direction indicator, a combined temperature/humidity sensor and a rain gauge, all powered by battery-backed solar power, plus 3 separate temperature sensors measuring other temperatures. I've modified the rain gauge with a larger funnel, so it is sensitive to about 0.34 mm of rain, and during August 2005 I put the anemometer on the bungalow roof-line. The information is sent to a base station in my study using radio at 433 MHz. The weather base station is connected to one of my PCs, an IBM Thinkpad T22 laptop (bought from eBay for £140) which is permanently on, runs Windows XP Pro and also serves as my network gateway. My previous PC, a Thinkpad 600, ran the site for about 20 months until it died during a lightning storm. The PC uses "Weather Display" software version 10.05d to upload the web pages. This page is custom written using the software's "custom tags" capability.
