Commentary

January 2019 Once again, we were away through most of January, this time returning to Kenya and Tanzania. However, I can see that the start of the month was fairly warm for the time of the year, whereas the end was very cold. It snowed on our first day back (the 29th) and it is still on the ground now, the 1st of February. It was a fairly light dusting and not much remains, but snow is snow. January also continued the run of drier-than-average months, and since April 2018 we're around 140mm behind where we should be.
February 2019 Started cool and quite wet, then around the 11th started a period of high pressure, with southerly winds blowing warm air from the tropics resulting in warm, sunny and dry weather. There was essentially no rain between the 10th and the 28th. The 27th saw a new February record temperature of 18.0°C, beating the previous highest of 17.3°C in 2017. Days were very warm, nights quite normal for the time of the year, and we had frequent frosts.
March 2019 March started really quite wet - we had 51.8 mm of rain (more than an average March) in the first 16 days. The country then entered a period of prolonged high pressure and all we got in the second half of the month was 1.8 mm rain. Ditto dull first half, fairly sunny second half. It was also the windiest month since December 2015, but quite warm generally, and some lovely spring days at the end of the month.
April 2019 April continued a dry spell lasting from March with less than 12mm rain in the whole month. April has historically been a very dry month here and so this was by no means a dryness record. However, we could definitely do with some decent rainfall. The start of the month was rather gloomy but brightened up later. The end of the month felt cold but was statictically about average, so I must have been affected by the decent warm spell in the middle.
May 2019 Started really quite cold - noticeably colder than the end of April. Got considerably warmer right at the end of the month meaning that it was the third coldest May I've recorded. Average rainfall, although it felt drier - 21mm of the rain fell in one day, the 8th. Somewhat dull.
June 2019 Warm right at the start, but then quite a cool, wet spell. At the end, hot and dry, with many stories in the papers about the hottest June day in the UK. Not here. Statistically few sunshine hours, but pretty good solar PV generation.
July 2019 Very warm - perhaps the hottest we've really had here, since the old "record" of 35°C was probably inflated by solar insolation. Very dry at the start of the month, then significant rain towards the end of the month - often as heavy showers.
August 2019 Quite wet at the start - August seems to quite often bring significant rain. However, almost none in the second half of the month, and pretty warm and sunny in that spell. Could do with rain for the garden and fish pond.
September 2019 The start of the month continued the weather from August - warm and dry. Between the 1st and the 21st we only had real rain on one day - 7 mm on the 4th. This caused a dry spell lasting 33 days. That broke on the 22nd when it stated to rain and didn't stop. We have now had significant rain on 10 consecutive days.
October 2019 A generally gloomy and damp month. Whilst 70mm of rain is not exceptional, it did seem to be raining to some extent a heck of a lot. Sunshine hours were a lot lower than expected, and we generated less PV power that predicted. But not too cold.
November 2019 Felt dull, chilly and wet. The statistics just about support this, although the actuall amount of rain that fell was not particularly high, and it was slightly warmer than the historical average. There was quite a bit of flooding across the country, and a number of roads in our area under water on the 27th. So not the best day to choose to collect my new motorbike....
December 2019 Wet and generally overcast. Whilst we had significant rain (>1mm) on 15 days, there was measureable precipitation (>=0.2mm) on 21 days and the pattern of localised flooding continued. Warmish with quite frequent frosts. Otherwise unremarkable again.

Ditto the year. Wet at the end, but no records or unusual spells.
