Commentary

January 2018 Again, we were away for much of January. However, the stats show a quite warm month, with above average rainfall. A brief intense storm occurred around 7 am on the 18th. This produced the highest wind speed I've recorded and caused some physical damage locally.
February 2018 February was cold for the whole month, and got very cold at the end. The 28th was an "ice day", with the temperature never exceeding 0°C. We've only had one day colder since I started records in 2004 and that was in 2006. It was also the coldest February I've measured - albeit only 0.02°C colder than 2010. The "Beast from the East" - cold weather from Siberia - produced a few inches of snow from the 27th and many schools closed - as did Felixstowe CAB. Despite all that it was generally quite sunny.
March 2018 March was also very cold. There were two more "ice days" at the start of the month, with snow falling and lying. There was a further cold snap in the middle of the month. On average it was the 3rd coldest March since I started records in 2004. It was also dull and wet. Hoping for a brighter, warmer April.
April 2018 April felt like a rather cold, wet month. Wet was true, but statistically it averaged "warm" - due almost solely to a very warm spell in the middle of the month, when the temperature reached the heights of 25°C. There was quite a protracted dry spell in the middle of the month but this was terminated quite abruptly at the end.
May 2018 Warm, sunny and mostly dry. Close to the warmest May we've had and setting a new record for hours of sunshine and electricity generated. It was pretty dry in the middle of the month. For much of the country the end of the month was punctuated by significant thunderstorms, with flooding in Birmingham and London. As usual, the rain swerved around us.
June 2018 Warm, sunny and dry. No significant rain fell after the 2nd, so a "mini-drought" of 28 days and counting. Forecasts remain for sunny weather so no signs of it ending at this point. Perhaps Wimbledon will bring on the rain gods. It was also warm, although apparently not as warm here as in many parts of the country. There was much talk in the press of heatwaves and record temperatures, but for us it wasn't as hot as last year. Still pretty warm, tho',
July 2018 We were away for most of July, but when internet access was available were very surprised to see that the drought that started on June 3rd continued almost to the end of July and was only broken by storms on the evening of the 27th. There were 54 days without significant rain, easily beating my previous record of 38 days over April 2007. Given the rain situation, unsurprisingly July 2018 was also pretty hot - my third hottest recorded. Statistically, it didn't seem very dry as over 36 mm of rain fell in the last 5 days of the month.
August 2018 A fairly average August. Quite warm to start with and rather chillier at the end. Average-ish rainfall, sunshine and other features.
September 2018 Fairly average temperature-wise, albeit with some nice warm days in the middle and towards the end, and some quite cool nights. Early morning on the 25th was the coldest September temperature I've recorded. Also pretty dry.
October 2018 Started pleasantly warm - something of an "Indian Summer". Turned cold at the end with one frost. Generally quite dry - rainfall has been lower than the long-term average since September 7. A wet spell right at the end of the month.
November 2018 Warm at the start, cold in the middle, warm at the end. Sunny at the start, dull and overcast towards the end. Felt damp and rainy but in practice rainfall was about average.
December 2018 The second warmest December I've recorded, after the extraordinarily warm December 2015. Average rainfall (but it felt wetter) and generally dull. Not very frosty.
