Parish Council

The Great Bealings Parish Council meets regularly in the Village Hall. Topics range from organising village events, reviewing local planning applications, dealing with traffic issues, clearing litter, and dealing with local footpath maintenance.

The Parish Council was responsible for taking the initiative in the preparatory stages of the renovation of the John Belstead Playground, but since the implementation project team took over, participates by offering an annual grant to the maintenance of the equipment and the Village Hall.

Currently, there are seven committee members:

Eric Barnett - Chairman
John Carter-Jonas
Julian Haywood Smith
Colin Hedgeley
Sally Johnson
Robin Sadler
Paul Norris
Craig Robinson

Sarah Cartwright - Parish Clerk

Members of the public are welcome to come to all Parish Council meetings which start at 7:30 pm at the Village Hall. The May meeting is the Annual Parish meeting which is held at the Angela Cobbold Hall and starts at 7 pm.

Meeting dates for 2013: 8 January, 12 March, 7 May, 9 July, 10 September and 12 November.

Ideas for village events are always welcome.

Climate Change Course

The parish council sponsored a series of lectures by Professor John Midwinter on the subject of climate change. 5 lectures have now been given, and PDF versions of the slides presented can be downloaded below. They are quite large - 2 to 5 megabytes.

  • Lecture 1 - Is the climate actually changing and what evidence suggests we humans are the cause?
  • Lecture 2 - Why should we be concerned - wouldn’t it be good to be warmer? What impacts are expected and roughly when?
  • Lecture 3 - What can be done about it at the personal level? Can one save money and the planet?
  • Lecture 4 - What can be done about it at the National/International level?
  • Lecture 5 - some notes to accompany discussion. There is an accompanying list of sources.
